According to the CDC, 50% of our population will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some point in their lives and 1 in 5 Americans experience a mental illness or disorder in a given year. This means that as health coaches we are likely to encounter clients who’ve experienced, will experience or have someone they know experiencing a mental health challenge. It’s important, therefore, for coaches to be aware of mental health issues and have knowledge about resources that may be helpful.
This HWC Connections Call is a presentation by Mariette Lynn Clardy-Davis. Mariette is an attorney and the founder of M.L. Clardy Law, LLC, where she provides clients with strategic, proactive legal counsel in the field ofmental health. Mariette uses her voice and authentic connection as a professional with bi-polar depression to educate, advise and connect with families and loved ones who are challenged with a mental health diagnosis.
Being mindful of the scope of a health and wellness coach, the goal of the presentation is to provide you with a broader context of mental health considerations and resources that may be beneficial to your clients, and for your personal knowledge. By participating in the session, you will be able to describe what a mental health crisis is and what can be done to mitigate the added stress and challenges that can come from it. You will be able to explain what happens before a crisis and how to recognize or help clients recognize behaviors that signify help is needed. Finally, you will be able name goals used in planning that are often unknown or overlooked by those in a care provider role.
This program qualifies for 1.0 ICHWC CE Credit. A Certificate can be obtained in the resources center for $10 after purchasing the training, completing it, and submitting the evaluation.
